Mepal Camp – Post-war displaced persons

After the Second World War, many of the Poles who had fought alongside the British were invited to settle in Britain with their families. Former military bases became their home and one of these was the complex of buildings that had been part of RAF Mepal. Most of the buildings once used by Mepal’s aviators were actually in the village of Witcham. A thriving community of many Polish families were a large part of WItcham’s community well into the 1950s.
